France has one of Europe’s largest ferry networks. Most routes from the United Kingdom arrive along the Channel coast, with Calais, Dunkirk, Dieppe, Caen, Cherbourg, Le Havre, St Malo and Roscoff spread across northern and western France. The map makes the difference between these French ferry ports much easier to see: short crossings are concentrated in the east, while the western routes reach Normandy and Brittany. Southern France forms a separate network, with Mediterranean ferries to Corsica and North Africa. Routes also connect France with Ireland and other parts of Europe.
